1926 Farmhouse

Originally the homestead of a local dairy farm,

this 1926 Farmhouse was a thrilling project for us. Though the home has changed owners several times over the years, the original millwork, Douglas Fir woodwork, hardwood oak floors, doors, hardware, cabinetry, and layout had all been preserved.

The homeowner’s main goal was to make accommodations that suited their modern family’s lifestyle while still maintaining the character and quality craftsmanship of the original home.

This remodel included a kitchen, laundry room, half-bath addition, an enlarged entrance/mudroom space, plus the addition of a covered, wrap-around porch.

We hope you enjoy this 1926 Farmhouse renovation and want to specially thank the homeowner and all of our subcontractors for making this vision a reality!

Video Tour:

In May of 2017 the homeowners of a 1926 Farmhouse connected with us asking for a kitchen remodel estimate. The three-story farm house was nestled 200 yards from the road with a bank of mature trees concealing it on one side. As we got out of the car at the end of the gravel driveway we knew this was a gem of a property.

The homeowner welcomed us to the kitchen, a mere 11×11 boxed-in space housing 5 exit points. About 5 years previously the homeowners had fixed up the kitchen in its existing location but as their family grew and entertaining began to take the main stage in their lives they began to dream of a more spacious, less congested kitchen environment.

A plan was already germinating by the time we came on the project. The homeowners had already put a 9-foot addition on the north side of the house and envisioned mimicking a similar bump out on the south side as well, allowing for a new kitchen, laundry room, ½ bath addition, and wrap-around porch.

After the inside details were settled we turned our attention to the outside: CertainTeed vinyl double 4” siding in Pacific Blue and accenting the exterior doors and windows with white vinyl trim. Maintenance-free Trex in Woodland Brown was chosen as decking for the covered porch.

This home is a testament to modern preservation – allowing for the evolving needs of your family without completely erasing a home’s history.
